The Sugar Grove Library Friends wanted to inform library district residents that Sugar Grove Library Board of Trustees Ken Wiesner and Erin Erickson have stepped down from their Library Trustee positions.

Ken and Erin have been outstanding Library Friends, incredible trustees and just the kind of young people who you know will have an extraordinary future together. They were both seriously committed to being library trustees and dedicated to the provision of library services in our community.

They attended regularly scheduled board meetings and the many special meetings specifically held for the new library. They showed a willingness to become familiar with Illinois library law, standards for libraries and the principles and practices for ensuring that the library provides broad and equitable access to the knowledge, information, and diversity of ideas needed by community residents.

What should be most admired about them both is that they were committed to the idea of freedom of expression and inquiry for all people.

Without their knowledge, drive and back bone the library would never have been able to secure the wonderful piece of property it now has at 125 Municipal Drive in Sugar Grove. Because of their very, very hard work, our new library is moving forward. We can never thank them enough for their time, effort and most of all for their caring for our Sugar Grove Public Library.

Library Board Openings April 12, 2008

Due to the recent resignations of Library Trustee Erin Erickson and Library Trustee Ken Wiesner the Sugar Grove Public Library District Board of Trustees is seeking candidates willing to serve an appointment until the Spring Election in 2009.

Individuals should contact Library Director Beverly Holmes Hughes before 2 pm on April 18, 2008 to express their interest and receive details of the duties and responsibilities of a Library Trustee. It is anticipated that the Board will make the selections at their May 8, 2008 Regular Board Meeting.

Used Book Sale March 14, 2008

The Friend’s “Used Book Sale” begins Saturday, April 12, 2008 and ends Saturday, April 19, 2008. Books remaining on Saturday, April 19^th after 2 PM will be sold by the bag for $2.00 a bag.

All books are priced well and in great condition. Soft -cover books will be sold for fifty cents, hard -cover books for $1. Audiovisual items are also available. The sale may include some special edition books which are individually priced from $1-$5.00.

Proceeds from the sale support the Library Summer Reading Programs. Once again the Library Friends is funding the entire Summer Reading Program because of the lack of funding for the Sugar Grove Library.

The sale is made possible by people like you who donate used books and materials in good condition. Children’s materials are especially popular. If you have any books - especially current audio books, paperbacks, hardbacks - or tapes, and/or CD’s and DVD’s, games or puzzles that you would like to donate, contact or go to the Sugar Grove Library at 54 Snow Street in Sugar Grove, IL or call (630) 466-4686. Text books and computer manuals cannot be accepted.

Volunteers are welcome and can come help with the setup at 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 10, and 10 AM on Friday, April 11, 2008; and they are also welcome to help with the teardown on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10 AM.

Friends Sponsor Essay & Video Contest February 22, 2008

The Friends, along with the Kane County Chronicle, The Daily Herald, and the Elburn Herald are holding the “Our New Library…” Essay/Video Essay Contest. All students, from preschool through 12th grade are invited to submit entries. There will be at least one $50 prize for each grade level. Students are asked to give us ideas for the new library. Preschool through 2nd grade students may submit a pictorial essay. Third through 12th graders may submit either a written or video essay. Video essays will be submitted through youtube.
